Chilliwack's variety of habitats host some 200 species of birds annually. You can bird around rivers and streams, on farm fields, in the mountains, and at such outstanding locations as Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park, and other lakes and ponds. Trails up 1,500-metre Elk Mountain take you to the marvellous birds found only at such elevations: the gray jay, mountain chickadee, Clark's nutcracker, Townsends solitaire, mountain bluebird, blue and spruce grouse, and maybe the white-tailed ptarmigan
